Under the U.S. Bioterrorism Act food facilities which are duly registered with the FDA must renew their registration information every two years, between October 1st and December 31st of each even-numbered year. The FDA has posted a Biennial Registration Renewal User Guide which you can find here. A.N. Deringer, Inc. recommends that registered parties renew their registrations early to allow time to address any difficulties encountered during the process. If the renewal information is not submitted on time, the food facility’s registration will expire. During the last renewal period, FDA was much more aggressive with cancellations and many importers/exporters found their shipments delayed while new registrations were completed.
Foreign food facilities that are required to register must declare a “U.S. Agent”, which is a party physically located in the United States. A.N. Deringer can assist in this role. For further information regarding U.S. Agents or assistance with registration renewal please contact fda@anderinger.com.
